Frequently asked questions

We first assess your ICT and other infrastructure to ascertain the school’s readiness.
We then sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a 3-year period for the software license
and the value added services we provide. The services include program launch, sensitisation of
head teachers, on-going training of teachers, on-going training of students, on-going training of
a super teacher, termly monitoring visits to the school, and setting up and supporting students-led Cyber Science Clubs.

Cyber School Technology Solutions has been in operation since 2006. That makes us 12 years old
in Uganda, the oldest e-learning software development company in Uganda to date.

We have a contract with the Ministry of Education and Sports to install the Digital Science &
Virtual Lab software in government secondary schools. Through this contract, the Ministry has
engaged UCC to support installation of the Digital Science and Virtual Lab software in over 1000
Government aided Secondary Schools and teacher training Colleges where UCC has set up
computer laboratories. We also work closely with NCDC to ensure conformity of our software
with the National curriculum.

Yes, individuals can subscribe to the software on an annual basis at 100,000 shs per year. Please see the Digital Science for Home Section for more details.
Currently, we have an offer which enables a school to reduce its termly payments by having its parents sign up for the software

Implementing e-learning is an on-going process because new users join the school every year (teachers and students) and require training. On-going support is also needed for timetabling, lesson observation, setting up and running of students led Cyber Science Clubs – so the school gets maximum benefits from using the software (see also 1 above). Moreover, high-end software is most often licensed to cater for maintenance and upgrading.

This is currently not possible in the current version of the software. However, it will
be possible in the web/internet-based version of the software.

The Digital Science and Virtual Lab software has caused very significant improvements in attitude
towards science and math in many of the schools using our software, including improvement in
grades. The testimonials shared attest to this. Please see the testimonial book.

The software does not require internet connectivity at all. All you need is a computer (stand alone
or networked with a local area network) and you are good to go. The new version being devel
oped will have both options of being used offline and online.

The software does not allow editing and adding of personalized notes. This is done to safeguard
publishing of content that may not be curriculum specic. It is a way of quality control since our
software undergoes a very rigorous vetting process for conformity to quality.
What the software does allow is feedback from users of new content they would like to see. This
information is used by our developers to make revisions to the product.

We update our software following internationally acceptable product revision standards, which is
periodic over a 3-year span. Hence the versions 5.0, 6.0, 6.1 and 6.2 so far.

The updates do not attract any extra charges. It is part of the service contract for us to regularly
update the software and for a school paying termly fees to benefit from these updates.

Our fully-fledged panel of subject matter experts ensures the software is updated whenever
there are changes in curriculum, and so the software is fully aligned to the new curriculum.

All it takes a school to have the software is a functional room designated for use as a Cyber Room
with a source of power (grid, solar or generator), functional computers (minimum 10 PCs – P4,
RAM-512MB), a projector and a signed MOU.
